Huntington At The Newport

If you're comparing the stretch of sand in Newport Beach vs. Huntington Beach, you'll see that there isn't much of a difference in this category. Both beaches are neighbors and have the same quality sand as the other beaches. However, there are several important differences. Newport Beach allows you to build a home along the beach line, so you can walk to the golden sands bordered by the deep blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. Finding a Huntington Beach vacation rental is a rare privilege because the hotels are close to the beach and piers. Besides the wedge in Newport Beach, Huntington Beach is also home to surfers.

Huntington Homes Being Constructed In Newport News

If you're bringing the family along and trying to decide between Newport Beach and Huntington Beach, you'll find a difference between their two offerings. Huntington State Beach is a major source of outdoor activities for our neighbor to the north. You'll find plenty of opportunities for the whole family to play volleyball, surf, tan and build sandcastles. If you head south to Newport Beach, not only are there plenty of ways to have fun on the sand, but there are also plenty of places for hiking and water activities. Take a pilot electric Duffy boat around the harbor, through the Upper Newport Bay State Marine Conservation Area and enjoy views of Crystal Cove State Park.

Whale watching, dolphin cruises, and the Balboa Fun Zone are some of the fun and exciting things to do in Newport Beach for families with kids. Huntington Beach doesn't offer many family activities off the beach.

When comparing the dining, nightlife and culture of Newport Beach and Huntington Beach, both cities offer a unique experience. The culinary scene in Newport Beach is second to none in the region. Here, you'll find a variety of dining options, from casual dining by the water to fine dining for a romantic date night. Huntington Beach has its fair share of bars and restaurants along Main Street, but they don't compare to the collection in the Newport Beach area. Between Moda Island, central Newport Beach and the Balboa Peninsula, you could spend weeks here and never eat at the same place twice.

Huntington Beach's vibe offers a laid-back, surfer vibe, while Newport Beach offers a more glitz and glamor vibe (though it's not pretentious at all). People travel to both places to hit the beach and enjoy the Southern California sunshine, but Newport Beach has plenty of places to enjoy local cuisine.

The Huntington, a New Urbanism housing development in the Denbigh section of Newport News, is moving forward, although it is a little behind schedule. The Huntington has an Independence Boulevard entrance in the 900 block of Denbigh Boulevard in Newport News.

Newport News-based Westmoreland Corp. began the first phase of development in a wooded area north of Denbigh Boulevard and east of Colony Pines, which the company also developed. The plan is to eventually connect Independence with Richneck Road and connect Huntington with the nearby Colony Pines neighborhood, but development will take years.

A major four-lane thoroughfare cuts through the development and connects the city's two main thoroughfares, Denbigh Boulevard and Ft. Eustis Blvd. Connecting roads have roundabouts to accommodate traffic management measures. Four regional ponds provide stormwater runoff areas, and numerous small parks serve as focal points for the entire development.

Huntington Point's concept of new-urbanism, which reflects the influence of design standards dominant in the mid-20th century before the rise of the automobile, is so new that the City of Newport News uses "neo-traditional" zoning. The ordinance is only the second since it was enacted in early 2000. When completed, Huntington Point will be the city's largest new development since the 1980s.

The first phase, which includes the land between Denbigh Boulevard and the pond, is about 85 acres. In future phases, the development will extend north to Richneck Road.

The company, led by Lewis McMurran, has developed other projects from Virginia Beach to Williamsburg and is based in Raleigh, NC.
